Hey, folks here is an interesting article sent by Joe Mckee...for you to read about blogs and how some people are trying to do what we tried three years ago.....finding nuggets of information from blogs (man I wish I would have stayed with that idea..think of how far ahead we would be..my fault)..anyway I bolded a piece of information that might be useful to you folks for pricing issues...one firm is paying $45,000 for a 10 seat subscription....looking at pricing for us I ask the question....if someone can get 4500 per seat for just combing through secondary information shouldn't we get at least that for doing over 300 primary surveys a year and giving one access to that? Food for thought on pricing, Billy we are pretty close in the FIDO contract especially if we get them to upgrade price...also tell me there is a service we can offer trading wise that people will look at...still thinking about it… Write Comment (0 Comments) |

A number of people in the last few weeks have asked me why I am so critical of some people's research and comments...and some have taken it personally which was never meant as the case... the following is a great piece written by Mark Cuban last summer about criticism...and how good it can be for everyone involved if based on content.....so I forward it to all of you and say keep criticizing each other based on content; and for the person getting the criticism do not take it personally but take it as an intellectual challenge that will only make you stronger or change your thoughts to be even better... Best, Craig

While we all wonder what the content companies will do going forward with Google and Youtube, you have to wonder what Apple is thinking and how they will respond.
They have to be sitting their with eyes wide open as they watch 3 of the major record labels sign some sort of deal with Gootube that rewards them with 40k shares of stock each, worth more than 15mm dollars that from appearances will allow Gootube to offer music videos for free from the Gootube site. Hey Guys, here is an article re-inforcing that MRI SCANNING stuff I was talking about at Trader Dinners. - Craig Gordon. One interesting aspect of behavioral finance is that we continue to advances in the state of the art of brain imaging technology. Therefore as our understanding of how the brain works necessarily trickles down into our understanding of how individuals make economic-related decisions. We noted in an earlier linkfest a magazine-length piece on the growing field of neuroeconomics by John Cassidy in the New Yorker. In it he does a nice job of summarizing what behavioral finance and neuroeconomics is all about. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

It was only a matter of time, but the ship has sailed. Maybe all the Murdoch media pushed it over the edge, but regardless, MySpace is old news. Well, maybe not old news, but it's certainly lost its edge. When you receive more friend requests from companies and bands you've never heard of than actual friends, you know its over.

A number of you have asked me to start thinking about an idea portfolio that has the following requirements: one it is updated on a regular basis so it can answer the question of what are your best ideas right now and second it has some uniqueness to it whether it be from research done by OTA, derivatives of that research from talks with our senior researchers, or just ideas that we could work on... Here is our idea on MMM....In last Monday's NY TIMES page A13 there is an article entitled, "Bush Administration Plans Medicare Payment Changes," by Robert Pear. The article highlights a bunch of changes in Medicare re-imbursement which like any change is freaking out the hospital administrators even though the article mentions,"the new plan is not expected to save money but will shift around billions of dollars." With Off the Record's new research coverage of "green" industries and interviews we are starting to consider that the real biofuel winner will be cellulose; ...and if so WY might see a huge increase in the value of it's timberlands. Our thoughts are based on five main points . They are: 1. "The American Energy Security Study" sponsored by a nonprofit group of legislators and governors, does a very thorough analysis of the alternative energy market and cites four technologies for producing fuel at a profitable level of 35-55 dollars a barrel. They are: 1. making liquid fuels from coal, 2. taking carbon dioxide created in various processes and pumping into old oil fields to produce more oil, 3. production of oil from shale and 4 using the production of ethanol from cellulose (the woody part of plants). This last use of cellulose has been demonstrated but not made commercially available...yet. If so this would be a huge boom to owners of timberland such as WY. Weyerhaeuser also has one of the best capabilities for arvesting and moving timber.( for this full report go HERE) Write Comment (0 Comments) |
